TOMMY
We've been asked to sacrifice something we might love in order to better ourselves for the temple...to give up something as a "gift" to the Lord.
It could be anything you think would better your own life.
Me for example?
I'm going to give up PG-13 movies for the next 3 months.
Yes, I'm going to miss Transformers, but it is something that the Lord would be proud of me for doing.
And I challenge you to do the same.
Maybe you could try to get something out of seminary if you usually do homework in the back.
Try giving up 10 minutes every night to open and study the scriptures.
Don't play a certain video game or maybe try not gossiping with your friends.
Try to make every mutual activity for 3 months and see what happens.
Delete all music from your iPod that you would be ashamed of the Lord seeing on there.
There are SO many thing you can sacrifice to the Lord to show Him that you are ready for His Temple to come. Show Him how grateful you are for how He has blessed you.
Remember that you can lead by example. So, if you decide to take a challenge leave your comment here! We'd appreciate it!
It is my testimony that if we try to better ourselves and give something up for the Lord, He will bless us for our sacrifice and make us happier than we are were before. I have seen it happen for myself and know of how much the Lord loves me. I have no idea how He will bless you, but I promise you that you will be much happier.
Remember, Come UP to the Mountain of the Lord!

At every one of our practices, our leaders are always asking us if we have had any missionary experiences, and there was one where some one introuduced thereselves to one of their new neighbors and he asked about the BRACELET and he totally showed or taught him everything he needed to know and he got to baptize this guy, i mean how cool is that!!! This experience is so great and i have had a lot of fun doing this! I can't wait to go to the conference center to preform this whole thing, it is going to be great!!! Thank you everybody!!!
ReplyDeleteFor my what will I give? project I want to try to read the Book of Mormon everyday.
ReplyDeleteWell I am doing the best that I can with my reading of my scriptures and praying often. I also have been writing in my journal so that years to come I may be able to look back and say that I was a part of that. I feel though that I really am not helping getting the word around. I don't have a cell phone so there is no way that I can be able to get the text sometimes I will left out. I would like to do more but I really don't know what else to do. Can you guys give some advice?
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to give up judging other people. One of my favorite hymns is Lord, I Would Follow Thee. One line says, "Who am I to judge my brother when I walk imperfectly? In the quiet heart is hidden sorrow that the eye can't see." It always makes me stop and think about all the times I judge someone when I really have know idea what they are going through. I'm going to strive to look for the positive qualities in everyone, and forgive others for their weaknesses. We are all children of God, and Christ loves everyone the same. If I want to come up to the mountian and be like Him, I need to try my best to love everyone, too.
ReplyDeleteTommy!! :) You inspired me! :) You're so right about the music, I actually just did that very thing a couple days ago, and I feel better. I replaced a lot of my old crappy music that i'd feel ashamed of if the Lord saw it with some Tabernacle Choir music :) I never really watch movies a lot, but it's never too late, or such a bad idea, to give up PG-13. You're a wonderful example and I hope you know you prolly helped MILLIONS of people by posting this blog, I know you helped me for sure :)
ReplyDeleteHi.I need to study the scriptures more. I always read before I go to bed so I think I should read the scriptures then the book I'm reading. I could also wake up extra early and read then. I'll try it until we do our performance. I also need to stop judging.
ReplyDeleteHello. Don't feel left out, I don't have a cellphone either. One way that you could help is by just inviting some one. If all your friends are in it ask some one in your class or work.
ReplyDeleteMan your idea is so true, we are so blessed with so many things in life like being members of this church and more with the new arrival of temples in the area. And showing the Lord how much we care by simple things goes a long way, and betters our selves and I guess I'll start by just praying daily and reading scriptures, thanx
ReplyDeleteTommy, you are pretty awesome. You're giving up PG-13 movies for 3 months, eh? Well, I figure that I would try to be a happier, more spirited person. I often find myself feeling down on myself and kind of alone, but I can change all of that! By reading my scriptures more fervently, praying, and doing all that I should be doing, I know that the Lord will bless me according to the righteous secret desires of my heart. I know many of us have hard times and bad days, but I promise that by living how you're supposed to, you can feel happier and be blessed by the Lord.
ReplyDeleteUm... I know this is off subject but how long will this website last? I want it to last for as long as it can.

ReplyDeleteI have a tendency to get onto Facebook for lots of hours everyday! So, I decided to give up all but five minutes of it a day, and when I want to get on there longer, I'm trying to do something better instead, like doing homework, studying the scriptures, working on goals, etc. So far, I have become a lot happier because of it, and I'm so grateful to be able to be a part of this wonderful Celebration, and for everything you guys have said on here!
ReplyDeletei've tried to read every night each day for seminary instead of watching tv or surfing the web and it has really helped my day. if i miss i sometimes have a hard time remembering what homework i need for classes the next day or just feel kinda overwhelmed. It helps me focus and release tension and stress becasue i take ten minutes of my day to unwind and invite the spirit to be with me. this is really cool to be able to read others opinions of the temple celebration. it way awesome!
